Mediterranean region has a complex geological past that had major consequences on biogeographical and evolutionary dynamics in the region. Also, anthropogenic pressure on Mediterranean ecosystems has altered the fauna and flora dramatically during centuries. As a result of the burden of its past and new threats from the climate change, Mediterranean region attracts more and more scientific interest today. The MEDINSECT IUFRO group gathers scientists from different countries concerned with entomological problems in Mediterranean forest ecosystems. It meets periodically and its forth symposium will be held between 09th to 14th April 2014 in Antalya, Turkey. We are pleased to announce that, along with the MEDINSECT-4 symposium, we are going to host the meeting of the "Integrated Management of Forest Defoliating Insects" and "Cone and Seed Insects" IUFRO Groups, which will mainly focus on long-term trends in forest insect populations, especially in the Mediterranean forests although contributions from other regions will be accepted.

The three groups will meet jointly in a common symposium which will include invited oral presentations, as well as oral and poster presentations along with social programs.

Antalya, the venue of the symposium, has been the centre of culture, art, architecture, and mythology throughout its history. This city is a cross-road of ancient Pamphilia, Psidia, and Lycia and was established in the most fertile area of Anatolia. Its historical and natural beauties, along with its perfect climate have made it one of the most famous tourist attractions and most preferred address for scientific meetings in Turkey.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the symposium, it is my great pleasure to invite all the interested researchers and educators in the international scientific community to join us in Antalya and share the excitement of good science for the benefit of mankind.

Oral and written presentations will be published in English in a special book after they are accepted by an editorial committee which will take advice from two independent reviewers.
